By Sophie Borland and Ben Spencer for the Daily Mail. Patients are illegally selling off unused prescription drugs on eBay, an investigation has found. Experts say there is a black market in prescription drugs which is putting patients at risk and costing the NHS thousands of pounds.

Under the law, prescription medication can only be handed out by a GP, hospital doctor, specialist nurse or pharmacist.

A spokesman for the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency MHRAthe drugs regulator, warned the practice was putting patients at risk. An eBay spokesman said: EBay sellers are prohibited from listing prescription drugs, in line with rules set by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency MHRA.
