Anyone ever sold calves there? How do they do their commission? How do they weigh the calves?

I went to Guthrie Ky. Just looking at other possibilities as Unionville is about 7 miles closer. Other times I have taken to the sale barn, they have always weighed across the scale.

Pretty much sucks on the sellers part if it is a feeder sale. Drop off a load of calves 1st thing in the morning, then they are drylotted until they are sold. Could be 12 hours or more. Needless to say, I only take off lots and singles to the local sale barn. All the rest either go private treaty or as locker beef. Unionville is a little bit closer and runs more head a week so I thought I'd check it out.

The commission charged is kind of vague.

I think that's what he said. The cattle are weighed in the ring when they're sold- he wasn't vague about that. He said 12 or 13 hundred head go through the ring per week on average.

I never sold any there but I just called the boss of Unionville stockyard. Maybe I'm missing something.

Is there any advantage for the seller when they aren't weighed until through go the ring? You may want to try the graded sell in Fayetteville. Commission is lower and they're weighed off the truck the day of the sale. If you bring them in the day before then they're weighed sale day.

Grab the bull by the horns I do better there than anywhere and the buyers are starting to learn my cattle. The commissions listed above are about right. I have never felt cheated here and the cattle are treated well with hay and water if left over night so they could even gain weight right before weigh in depending on the food and water intake. I have sold at Fayettville, McMinnville and other places but have had better success at Unionville.

The calves are weighed and sorted into uniform groups of same sex, quality and weight calves from several producers hoping to make load lot sizes 45, to 52, lbs. You can look up commission fees at any posted livestock auction market at: The only sales I know of in Texas that weigh prior to the sale are the pre-conditioned calf sales.

If you looked at the top of the list it said all sales listed with red text were not required to post their tariiffs. Don't know anyumore than that. In Carthage they weigh off the truck and then group with others of like size and same sex. By doing this they sell a pen at a time instead of just singles.

Sale goes by much faster and prices seem to be better due to loads being obtained much quicker. I've been told the sale in Lafayette, TN does this also. Who is online Users browsing this forum: Board index All times are UTC
